Hello Robert,

I couldn't agree with you more.

But I am perhaps slightly more opinionated in that I think our lagging behind in this instance is shameful and the long term consequences potentially catastrophic. We live in a globalized world where first mover advantage and quality of delivery are often defining characteristics of business success.

We have been exposed to a multitude of disruptive technologies associated with connectivity and I predict that they will continue to shape the global business, political and educational landscape increasingly for years to come.

I believe now is the time for bold leadership and forward thinking and that the actors in this climate of fear will be the victors in tomorrow’s landscape of fierce competition.

I commend your company for being one of those bold leaders and on behalf of all Canadians look forward to your continued success.

Excellence is not an accomplishment. It is a spirit, a never-ending process.

Interesting post Tim, it seems that “white spaces” are a hot topic these days. Here’s another relevant article that was posted yesterday in The Economist “Bigger and Better than Wi-Fi” http://www.economist.com/node/17647517

Hi John,

Thanks for your comment.

Budgetary constraints is usually the limiting factor in aligning coverage/capacity objectives with the business goal of increasing ARPU.

RF design and optimization strives to make this a reality and the effort is organic and iterative in nature.

Thanks again,

Bayo Awoyemi,
Director of Project Management, WireIE

So true. The impact of RF design goes beyond the user experience, and is directly related to capital efficiency and operating costs. In other words, there are two ways to achieve adequate network capacity:

1. Over-spend on radio spectrum, equipment, and transceiver sites (engineering & construction, lease costs, backhaul),

OR,

2. Good RF network design and optimization.

I've only seen the promotional video about Smart Grid City at the Accenture conference, held recently in Vancouver on April 26-28 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

While I read the white paper, I didn't retain anything other than that smart grid implies that computers will be involved more and more in distribution of the power grid, including possibly the ability to self-monitor consumption even when not at home via mobile or remote computing i.e. email of brown-outs or, if in areas where such occurrences are commonplace, power loss.

What I'd like is a device to connect between my extension cord and the wall which tells me how much my computer and peripherals consume. It has to be affordable ($40-60).

As well, UPSes need to drop to an affordable price based on dollars per kilowatt-hour.
