CarbonVIX update!

03/26/2009 14:55

We’re continuing to run various tests and trial activity with our CarbonVIX test bed this week.

Due to weather issues we’ve moved most of the work indoors, however with the exception of the solar array we’re still able to test all of the functionality.

We’re comfortable with what we’ve learned about the solar system’s ability to capture solar power and deliver it to either the storage batteries or a load. This week we’ve been testing the radio link, IP switching, video capture and the power management system.

After several months of lab work we finally moved our CarbonVIX test bed out of the lab into the parking lot for some operational testing. To date, we have spent the bulk of our time working on individual components. Thursday and Friday of this week we made real progress operating a “system”.

We are now able to demonstrate the coordinated functionality of several technologies and they are solar power, energy storage, broadband Ethernet radio and IP connectivity with various communication and control devices. (more)

A mere week ago, I was a twitter skeptic.

Last Friday, I had several co-workers gathered around my desk energetically explaining the opportunity and buzz that is the magic of twitter. At the time, I did not really “get” what the point was of letting the web world know one’s each and every move on a regular or in many cases, very frequent basis.

Now I possess a Twitter account and am somewhat addicted.

Those of you who have seen some recent media buzz but are still unfamiliar with the site should really check it out. If you are curious about how it works, this video does a great job at explaining the site in a simple way:
