WireIE Innovation for Smart Grid Applications
WireIE can provide an array of network solutions for Local Distribution Companies (LDC's) who are adding enhanced intelligence and control to their grid. We design, build, operate and manage the broadband communication network that enables Smart Grid applications.
What is Smart Grid?
A Smart Grid is a modern system that uses sensors, monitoring, communications, and automation to improve the flexibility, security, reliability, efficiency, and safety of the electricity system.
How we use it
Using a combination of network technologies anchoured in IP, we provide connectivity between control and monitoring devices in the field. Centralized management systems are then used to enforce business and operational rules, as set out by the Local Distribution Company (LDC).
Our advantage
Leveraging our unique intellectual capital in wireless network engineering, WireIE has created a comprehensive architecture supported by our Smart Grid Foundation™.
An effective Smart Grid deployment must first start on a solid foundation of the utility's asset management framework, which in turn drives the next layer of IT and network infrastructure.
In conjunction with valuable participation from the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), WireIE's Smart Grid Foundation™ has evolved a vision that is endorsed by many utilities eager to take the first steps in deploying Smart Grid. The fundamentals include low latency fourth generation wireless networking, supported by a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) Core based on IP. The foundation also envisions taking lessons learned from today's most advanced telecommunications networks including the use of Operation Support Systems to manage field data. White papers are available through the WireIE Resource Centre.
