ROB BARLOW, PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
Born in the rural community of Thessalon, Ontario, WireIE President and CEO Rob Barlow understands the importance of serving the underserved. Rob, an entrepreneur by nature, has held key positions in companies such as Hydro One, Clearnet, and TELUS. Rob began his career as a lineman for Ontario Hydro, where he realized the stark inefficiencies that are caused by the digital divide. He took this as a call to action and joined an emerging cellular company, Clearnet. After learning the ropes of the wireless industry, Rob understood that there was a bigger impact to be made by focusing on the digital divide, so he created WireIE.
In 2007, Rob and a small team founded WireIE based on the conviction that everyone deserves to be connected to the digital economy, regardless of where they live. With a passion for empowering underserved communities, Rob and his team have taken WireIE from the start-up it once was, to an award-winning international network operator that’s unleashing potential across Canada and the Americas.
His whole life, Rob has been a serial philanthropist. Since WireIE’s conception, 3% of the company’s yearly profits are donated to charities focused on bridging digital divide in underserved communities. He has also been involved with charities such as, the Ride to Conquer Cancer, Hope Air, Oceans.org, The Covenant House, and more.
Overall, Rob’s philosophy is, “money’s true worth is its ability to help the people that need it more than you,” and he takes this message to work with him every single day.
